Nuevas perspectivas sobre el 18enero

Es el asunto del momento. Ayer unas 60.000 páginas norteamericanas y un buen puñado de páginas extranjeras cerraron para protestar contra la Stop Online Piracy Act, un proyecto de ley que trata de conseguir que las grandes corporaciones tengan el poder de censurar Internet para así acabar con lo que ellos llaman piratería, algo que no sólo incluye el alojamiento de contenidos con copyright sino el vínculo a los mismos. Y como era de esperar, artistas como Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails o The Flaming Lips entre otras bandas, también estuvieron en contra.

Varias de las mismas, concretamente Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), MGMT, Nada Surf, OK Go y Amanda Palmer, firmaron una carta abierta que está disponible para todo el que quiera leerla en la que se oponian claramente a SOPA y también a su ley hermana, PIPA:

Nosotros, junto con el resto de la sociedad, nos hemos beneficiado inmensamente de un Internet libre y abierto. Nos permite conectar con nuestros fans y alcanzar nuevas audiencias. Usando las redes sociales y servicios como Facebook, Twitter o YouTube podemos hablar directamente a estos fans y hablar con ellos de una manera inimaginable hasta hace unos años.

Por su parte, Radiohead con Thom Yorke a la cabeza colocó un vínculo en contra de PIPA en su página web. Otras bandas como Circa o OK Go hicieron blackout por completo de sus páginas web, clamando por la libertad de expresión por encima de los $.

The Flaming Lips quisieron protestar a través de su cuenta en Twitter, donde cambiaron la imagen de usuario, como muchos otros también hicimos, e incluyeron un texto en contra de SOPA.

Los artistas que apoyaron ayer la jornada de huelga contra SOPA y PIPA se cuentan por miles, algo que debería hacer a los legisladores estadounidenses pensarse dos veces seguir adelante con la ley, u optar por la no-censura de Internet.
